but I’m answering to another question. Not “why Java and not Lisp?”, but “why Java instead of other well-funded systems?”.
Why not Lisp? Money, and the lisp machines got destroyed by internal struggle between the idealists and the market radicals some had hired because they thought they themselves had no clue of economics.
