[Zap Appimage.Manager](

Many Linux apps are only offered in the .appimage format, which is kinda the Linux version of an MS Windows .exe file. Grabbing Appimages can lead to a confusing mess, leaving you not knowing what is on your system or where it is stored or installed.

⚡️Zap is a command line tool for downloading Appimages from GitHub, or from unofficial Appimage repositories. Zap is very helpful for keeping track of your Appimages, & placing a menu entry within your desktop environment.

To install Zap:

1. Grab zap from GitHub & place it in /usr/local/bin to make it accessible to everyone. This can be done running this command ina terminal.

sudo wget https://github.com/srevinsaju/zap/releases/download/continuous/zap-amd64 -O /usr/local/bin/zap
```

2. Next make it executable:

```
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/zap
```

To list available Appimages:
'zap search'
(then type to filter, case sensitive)

To install an Appimage:
'zap install app_name'

Sample:
'zap install Firefox'

To install from an app's official GitHub page:
'zap install --github --from GitHubUsername/GithubProjectName'

[Zap.Store App Store](

Yesterday was the initial release of a new app store called [Zap.Store](https://zap.store/) coming from the NOSTR community, and it shows great promise. You can find the official social media account 👉🏻 [here]https://primal.net/p/npub10r8xl2njyepcw2zwv3a6dyufj4e4ajx86hz6v4ehu4gnpupxxp7stjt2p8).

It is based on the NOSTR protocol, which means it can be a decentralized app store, hosting the apps all over making it near impossible to take down an app.

It will have Bitcoin Lightning wallet integration so you can send or "Zap" Bitcoin to developers to fund apps you like, or easily tip them to show your appreciation for their effort on apps you use.

Everything is still brand new, so how it all evolves over time will be interesting.

You can grab the APK at https://zap.store and sideload it onto your DeGoogled phone. Don't forget to verify the download using the SHASUM command in Linux.

For now you sign in with a NOSTR public key (npub), not your secret key.

If you don't have an npub key you can create a public/secret key pair using the Amethyst app or the Primal app.
