Nostalgia for breaking off the tabs in the corner of a cassette for copy protection, then taking back over them when you need to change something... assuming that was the aim?
Otherwise it seems like a zero ohm resistor or super bridge that you could desolder, and possibly replace with a switch if desired, seems more obvious to me.
