But "Elfstones" was the first book that I deliberately left on the shelf. I read the first chapter and it sounded so much like "Here's Gandalf! Here's Bilbo! You have to go on an adventure now!" but with different names that I couldn't continue. Perhaps it's because I didn't know enough about story patterns/tropes? But in any case I don't think I missed out in real terms ...
