If you look at the underlying data of that match, it was extraordinarily even. Spain had 4 big chances, Croatia 3; Spain had 11 shots, Croatia had 16; possession was 47% to 53% for Croatia. Fouls, passes, tackles, blocked shots, duels, dribbles all about as even as it gets in a game. On another day, it could have *easily* gone the other way, which is why I define the win for Spain more as luck than design. Both teams were good.
