Wine's just a reverse engineering hack, albeit a remarkable & venerable one. But ultimately, the proprietors can change their code any time, potentially breaking any attempts at reverse engineering. They don't *want* their code to run on Linux, because if it did, they'd - get this - lose the complete control they now enjoy.
