People will say that technology can't solve social issues and programmers often err in thinking they can. And I understand that.
At the same time, as we’ve *clearly* seen in the stark differences between commercial social media and indie-run fediverse, sometimes the way software technology is designed, built, and deployed has a *huge* impact on the kinds of social structures, norms, and expectations which are in vogue.
Put another way: if GitHub is the “Facebook” of forges…what's the Mastodon?
