This only happens in extremely affluent societies. Some believe it's inevitable in affluent societies. It's like we have mental immune systems that need real problems to develop resilience; in the absence of real challenges, the mental immune system attacks itself and we get iatrogenic mental illnesses, analogous to autoimmune disease.
