this is as opposed to other well-established narrative arcs like unrequited romance, great journey, domestic/situational comedy, soap opera, etc. like, the major cultural development of the last 30-40yrs is that **everyone** is in a workplace now, so our narrative arcs reflect that. it's honestly a little bit sad.
