a major category of TV show that i don't see defined as such anywhere is the "workplace drama." so, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Ted Lasso, Silicone Valley, Veep, Mad Men. the central dramatic tension is "will they have success in the workplace???" by getting a promotion, landing the big deal, navigating a relationship with a bad co-worker. i kind of feel like this is a newish genre (like, of the last ~30yrs).
