I wrote this over a year ago and it still holds up. Since then, I’ve had the experience of actually running a brand account on #Nostr, albeit a small niche one in the grand scene of things.
I’ve reached out to a few larger brands to offer to help onboard them, but they either don’t see the point, or are too risk-averse. The truth is we don’t need them here, but the ones that manage to crack the code will have a massive head start on their competitors.

quoting note1nh5…ss38One of the most refreshing things I’ve found from being here for the last 6 months is the almost complete lack of companies and brands. I’m not talking about advertising, but the staffed social media accounts we’ve all become accustomed to. Some are witty, others are obnoxious, but most are just boring and their posts read like they’ve been through multiple reviews with the legal department.
Now when I see a brand posting here, even if it’s one I otherwise like, my first reaction is, “Hey, are you lost?” Mostly I wonder if any of them actually want to build and engage with an audience, or they’re just kicking the tires and just think this is somewhere to regurgitate the same stuff they publish everywhere else and don’t even bother to check their notifications.
If you do manage a brand as a day job and you want your company be a true pioneer in this space where you don’t even have competition yet, here’s your opportunity, if you’re willing to put in the work to get it right.
