As best as I can tell, we are near max EV production based off of current mining capacity, which makes it physically impossible to go much beyond the 2% market share (I may be miss remembering that, but I know it is lower than the 10% of energy resulting from wood burning xD) for renewable energy.
There is like a 10 to 15 year turn around to open new mines (and even then, there are other factors to prevent them from scaling up to the point were they can realize their dreams). What this means in reality, is that there cannot be a meaningful replacement of octane vehicles with EV. So we wont ever be dependent on them. So you don't have to worry about there failure xD
