I'd argue that, if GNOME's desktop experience is to not have a fallback to SSDs, that's GNOME's problem to figure out, not a developer's problem. If every developer refused to adopt libdecor, it'd force GNOME to deal with the problem in one way or another, either by adapting the shell to make it easier to interact with undecorated windows or finally adopting xdg-decoration. At no step of this equation should it be on the developer to deal with.
