Sounds like it might have pushed the needle bar up a bit, out of position, and thus affected the timing.
A simple test is to lower the needle (i.e. don't push it all the way up into the holder), and do a careful test sew. If this improves, it does suggest that the needle bar should be lowered. If it's just happened, you may be able to see alignment marks or evidence of the previous position, and fix it.
