I am American. I’m middle aged and live in a purplish-blue, East Coast suburb. Oddly, no one harasses me for wearing the shirt you mention. I’ve had people not understand it – like, “What does this mean? Are you flame resistant?” – but no real pushback. I think the fact that my age/unattractiveness make me unnoticed, as well as my not-the-deepest-blue area must make a difference.

I agree that there is danger, and that UK women have it a little easier in some ways, though at least, we have the First Amendment. We can be fired more easily, but the Brits can be arrested! Also, conservative U.S. women are subject to the same employment laws as liberals, and yet, somehow, conservatives are (generally) willing to do more. I find that shameful, as a liberal. I am ashamed by wealthy liberal women (including retired celebrities who could live happily without any more income) being willing to do nothing and just going along with it.
