I think it really depends on where that sentiment is coming from.

If the context is "Maybe take a step back and look at the bigger picture" then I think that person is right and means well.

But if that statement comes from a place like "Stop feeling bad it's a waste of time/energy" then it's just ignoring the fact that even negative emotions have their place and shouldn't just be blindly ignored.

I know that it was just an example. Sometimes other people just don't know better.
