What we've seen, is that even people with closely-aligning political views have become averse to living together. The number of people living alone keeps climbing. Probably, as you note, a lack of maturity and willingness to tolerate or compromise, leading to an inability to stand being around other people.

One of the major reasons for the housing shortage is the steep drop in number of people per dwelling. The country is so wealthy, that everyone can now afford to live alone (this raises living costs, care-taking costs, and infrastructure costs, dramatically), and the government heavily-subsidizes this habit.
