Yeah, I've been listening to Jack for years, where I heard about biochar too.
A cover crop is a great idea, I haven't really done that in my veggie patch yet, apart from broad (fava) beans. But that would help I think, thanks for the advice.
Over the rest of my block I mower mulch the grasses or chop and drop taller material, but I should be doing that on on my veggie patch.
