Yeah, you are right. I should have added a time axis to my initial statement. On the short term, which is what people seem to only care about nowadays, it is as you say. It naturally benefits politicians (because they get paid good bucks from the billionaires) and managers (because they can make their billionaire owners happy by raising the stock price at the global casino).

On the long term it doesn't make any sense for either, though. And usually logic would dictate for company bosses and governments to care most about keeping things running in a beneficial way for the future of their company or nation.

Then again, going by the words of a German professor for physics and philosophy, this society, and especially the economical and financial world, is a sick abnormality where the past (in the shape of fossils from millions of years ago) and the future (in the shape of exploitation of Earth's ecosystems) is being pulled into the present to maximize profit.
