What I'm suggesting is a large number of people aren't hearing you. e.g. "replace the police" is stilted but can lead to a conversation as the response may be "Replace them with what?". You then have an opportunity to follow up with what you said. OTOH, when many people hear "abolish the police" they simply think "That's insane. someone needs to maintain order." and tune you out. Just a thought
