When people say "defund the police" they're usually referring to taking funding away from the police and putting it into other social services, like in the above image. When people, like myself, say "abolish the police", we're advocating for the complete replacement of the police force with an alternative decentralized, preferably non-hierarchal form of community defense, in addition to a greater emphasis on social and mental health programs.
