This is and arguably has always been the rarest plant in the UK. Its so rare, its almost impossible to actively conserve. It was declared extinct, and then a single flower was found in 2009, its last UK sighting.
It depends on certain fungi (basiomycetes) for all its nutrients.
It mostly lives in leaf litter, and rarely flowers. There has been speculation that it might flower in the leaf litter, and we would never know!
