I think maybe folks feel like, when they see some stupid opinion being voiced, insulting and harassing an individual dummy is rude and thus they must anonymize their ire and put it into the mouth of a hypothetical unsourced quote. But:

- cherry picking bad takes is literally strawmanning, it makes the counterpoint far weaker

- by anonymizing the argument by making it less specific, rather than insulting one person, you are insulting everyone with feelings in the vague vicinity of the point
