I grew up reading Larry Niven stories where com-lasers were the default for ship-to-ship, so this has always seemed like an obvious thing to do. Of course, in those stories, a laser good for coms at a dozen AU made for a pretty decent weapon (everything in a Niven story made a pretty decent weapon if you were clever enough). I just hope we don't end up with a bunch of weaponized starlink satellites shooting down the competition.",
