Springtime for Zeon (Woggy Mk II) on Nostr: A lot of american gear has this baseline assumption that maintenance is actually good ...
A lot of american gear has this baseline assumption that maintenance is actually good and desirable, probably because they're used to treating the military like a jobs program. There's no care paid to making sure a plane can go beyond overhaul for weeks on end - that really bugs me because our systems are so fragile in a real world war against a true peer. If the pacific pops off, they won't be able to guarantee overnight shipments of super specific F35 parts the whole time, and if the damn thing can only fly 40 hours between breakdowns then the unit won't be combat effective.
It's like they have zero respect for how deadly reliance on JIT logistics would be in a real fight. Ukraine is making it worse, because their battlefield is caged in by friendly borders that can freely ship crap without getting whacked by the enemy. Now they'll double down thinking WWIII will be the same - "just make sure we have overmatch so we can win the first engagement and then it's easy sailing, who cares if it needs 120 hours of AMT love for every sortie"
