I heard (though it may most likely be untrue) that vanilla Mastodon has a hard-coded 500-character limit. I obviously don't want that cause' I fucking hate Twitter, and for reasons that should be obvious to anyone. I do think that moving to more stable software is beneficial, though. I'm just saying that there may be some features that are more important than that.
