the Mastodon 4.2.0 upgrade looks major enough to intervene with my local search-related patches:

i'm running Glitch, which is an experimental fork of the main development branch of Mastodon, so it already received some of the other changes mentioned some while ago.
i've been considering to switch the instance to stock Mastodon, for various reasons.
Glitch doesn't really have official releases. when you upgrade, you just get the latest changes, which are often months ahead, but therefore also untested. you risk having a buggy instance after an upgrade.
this is further complicated by having a local fork, because each upgrade involves a bit of development work to puzzle out what the Mastodon/Glitch developers have been up to for the past few months and merge in their changes.
i could switch back to stock Glitch, but this still leaves the issue of running an experimental fork on a production server.
with a switch to stock Mastodon, some of the perks of berserker.town such as federated search, would disappear, but they're not exactly mission critical.
it would make the job much simpler for me though, because it would involve less thinking and take less time.
