In Critias, Plato describes Atlas as the first king of Atlantis and the eldest of the ten sons of Poseidon and Cleito. His twin brother was Eumelus (in Greek, Εὔμηλος), though he is also called Gadeirus (Greek: Γάδειρος), which is the name associated with Gades (modern Cádiz, Spain).

Gadeirus (Eumelus) was the brother of Atlas and ruled over the part of Atlantis near Gades.
