Being completely honest, Linux isn't great or optimal as a desktop operating system which you've already seemed to have figured out, the hardware issues will always exist as hardware vendors build for Windows, with Linux being a second class citizen outside the server world. Still, I'd argue its worth getting familiar with on the side as Microsoft certainly isn't focused on making Windows any better
