I left the church as soon as I turned 18.

Not because I stopped learning from Jesus or his life, but because of the sheer hypocrisy I witnessed.

Jesus, to me, was someone filled with radical love and compassion for all living beings. He overturned money changers tables in the temple, he healed the sick, and he protected sex workers.

#Jesus challenged the states' oppressive structures and was murdered for it.

My experience of the Catholic Church was conformity at the cost of radical love and compassion. To allow the radical love and compassion Jesus embodied during his life to live in you meant you must allow it to change you. This means challenging our internalized bias and the things we are taught when raised in a white supremacist capitalist system.

Jesus had moments of doubt where he wanted to run, and he could have. Instead, he stayed, in solidarity with those who fought for the same things he did.

Jesus is supposed to represent the unconditional love of God in human form.

His story shows us we are ALL divine, ALL worthy of love and dignity, and our purpose in life is to create "heaven" on earth and end all oppression. In order to do that we must all fight for liberation.
