This would explain so much of the dysfunction we've seen in the Greens since James Shaw became leader, without making him a scapegoat. I remember raising an eyebrow when Shaw was elected co-leader and started talking about tripling the party membership ASAP. I thought this was naive and his tenure as co-leader seems to have borne this out.
