Red Hat also seems to have missed an opportunity for RHCOS to be something more than just something that hosts Openshift, and this is a clear area where Red Hat is behind with regard to SUSE. SLEMicro, OpenSUSE Leap Transactional Server, Elemental TealOS/Toolkit, etc all have useful and practical applications on their own, in addition to them all being capable of hosting Rancher Kubernetes platforms. Fedora's CoreOS, IoT, etc prove that it's not a technical limitation of ostree.
