Shawn Fain very successfully demonstrated this with the recent UAW strike.
but workers don't need a union president to accomplish this. the Incarcerated Workers' Organising Comittee (IWOC) of the IWW, which is made up almost entirely of prisoners, has organised a couple of nationwide prison strikes in USA over the past ten years.
