Yes but nobody needs to intentionally install backdoors. It turns out there are enough accidental bugs that can be cleverly exploited that nation-state level actors have scores of zero-day exploits on lots and lots of things, and they didn't need to install any backdoors. It is way better for them as it leaves no trace and raises no hackles. Exploits are impressive things, mind-blowing magic tricks.
But I choose open source all the time. Because closed source is even worse. The hackers can still find the bugs and write exploits, but the good guys can't see the code to judge or fix it. Back in 1990 Microsoft (among others) was certain it was the other way around, that by obscuring the source code it was safer. But they turned out to be wrong.
