Yes the power issues I know. I hope this is a question of evolution.
And the security is defnitly a thing. But it is still much easyer to avoid intentional backdoors and sniffing tools implemented into code with opensource. Since it is a question of time until a widely used software with spying capability is revealed. And once it is revealed there is a new fork that fixes the surveilance.
