The nationality law in Japan is a bit more complicated.
Had more than 1 passport from birth:
- You are required to chose a citizenship by the age of 22.
- Making a decision does not entail renouncing the other citizenship, there is some "best effort" nonsense, but certain countries make this exceedingly difficult and or expensive (Eg: The US).
- The MoFA etc literally doesn't give a shit unless you do something stupid like enter into Japan with a non-JP passport.
If a person naturalizes (did not have a JP passport from birth), one of the requirements is "get rid other citizenships".
As a side note, Ukraine does not allow dual-citizenship either.
