> Should any given Linux GUI app adapt its UX to the desktop environment it is launched upon? Is it how non-Gnome apps actually behave?
Decorations style aren't a massive UX change, it's more a desktop integration thing, and it doesn't requires any code change on the side of apps.
There is situations where UX should change based on the environment (desktop vs. mobile for example), but Gnome project should at the very least follow the standards (like wayland-protocols) it participates in and understand that it's not the sole graphics project on unixes.
And yes, there's a massive anti-Gnome project sentiment, basically because Gnome doesn't plays nice with non-Gnome projects, for example GTK4 is unusable on other compositors and has been since release (for example cursor being 2× it's normal size without forcing a non-rescaling cursor theme).
And this relationship issue has been the case for about 10 years now, with various non-Gnome applications either having entirely moved from GTK to Qt or adding Qt as an option.
I'm not sure what the Gnome project thinks of this situation but I really wish they would change their ways, specially as it's seems to be horrible on individual developers that then end up facing hordes of annoyed users/developers.
