Wellington's own Steven Sedley (Czegledi), who was 10 at the time, and his brother, were in the Ghetto and recall the day of liberation. Steven writes about this day in the latest issue of the New Zealand Listener (January 18-24, 2025). "People who had been confined there for months could finally leave,” he writes. "Within an hour, people were on the move, pushing carts or carrying whatever belongings they still had." Exactly as in the photo above.
