Every once in a while, I would make a little effort back on the piano. Never seemed to advance. I figured, I don’t really have the juice for it. Not everybody is musical. (I did sing in many musicals, including lead roles, but it doesn't mean you can play an instrument.)
The local schools encourage music, and most kids either sing or (larger component) play some kind of instrument for two or three years—longer if they get hooked.
