the station rebuild now addresses the main issues (surface transit integration, especially the regional buses, redevelopment needs around the station and poor walkability in newly required directions), preserves a part of the old station that has the most value (the main hall) for some use and is not even overly crazy expensive
(tbh i also suspect the massive truss roof can more or less be downsized as needed by any budget or visual concerns)
