If you think about pretty much everything that sucks about technology now—the replacement of ownership with subscriptions, surveillance, exploitative monetization/gambling, advert-driven shittiness, genAI hype—it is the opposite of this ethos.
It's telling that mobile gacha microtransaction peddlers use the dehumanising term "whales". Those making good tools treat users as intelligent, morally whole humans deserving of respect and care.
