I'm watching Haiti with interest, which is a failed state, and which perhaps the United States or other governments could also become in time. It has "anarchy" in the chaotic sense of the word, and basically warlords and gangs, including the United Nations and less directly the United States, seem to be trying to take over control of everything and assert that they are the legitimate authority.
In the absence of one entity asserting a monopoly on violence are you just destined to have a Hobbesian "war of all against all," which is what it looks like in Haiti? Is trying to live free and not be ruled by others just a pipe-dream because there will always be entities seeking to enslave you? Are we destined to always live under the claimed authority of someone? Will we always either be slaves or have someone making efforts to enslave us? (Don't feel obligated to reply to these questions; I'm just venting rhetorically).
