Since the poles are warming faster than the tropics, the temperature gradient between hot and cold regions which has been keeping weather patterns in the temperate zones fairly stable is getting flattened, making all kinds of chaotic behaviour more likely as the Earth's climate system is leaving its current attractor (the Holocene configuration) but hasn't snapped onto a new attractor yet (which will quite likeky be a new Hothouse Age if we keep emitting GHGs). So while extremely hot weather is getting far more likely in most regions, extremely cold weather also gets more likely in some.
