Government should fix the faults in the systems before introducing new restrictions and restrictions on people’s private lives. Also, given the ongoing mess in the Post Office systems who could even trust them to (a) get this correct? (b) not allocate the wrong information/wrong account against someone? (c) not take money from someone they shouldn’t? This is dangerous and too intrusive. As a pensioner, the government can see enough of my information to figure out my pension. They don’t need more.
