I think there have been a lot of games that have transformed away from 17th ct. Paris to other places. I have seen things about London gentlemen, games set in Spain, in Glorantha, the world of Game of Thrones, etc. I don't know if these always would work without issues, as the specific setting of the game needs an environment where a certain kind of noble could go about their day getting into misadventures and fights all the time, while shirking their military duty.
