My theory is that people falling in love with an audio format or listening tool (reclaimed iPod! Tangara! Turntable!) is similarly because it brought them around to finding an attentive, focused listening process that vastly increased their enjoyment of the music itself. It's like the more charitable inverse of the old "audiophiles use your music to listen to their equipment" trope: sometimes a process just elevates an entire experience, and people fall in love with the elevation.
