I'd just dropped out of a PhD, and although I joked that the definition of social deroute in 1 letter is "PhD to PHP", it was good work, and a good time to be doing that work.

Unfortunately the company got acquired and put under terrible new management, so I found a job teaching CS and maths at community college until a couple of years ago.
