It's embarrassing to admit, but sometime in the 10s I lost my zest for "making websites" --I worked as a literal webdesigner in London in the 00s! Built shopping carts and databases and designs for so many little shops. But, I felt defeated by the "big web" it was easier to just list stuff with amazon, having social media "presences" mattered more than having your own domain.
I didn't really recognize the real price of centralization wouldn't show itself fully for a long time.
