... those pretty girl dresses are made of cheap polyester?? ****childhood illusions shatter****
Oh gosh, I dislike so much that material! Is not so bad for me as the extremely thin, low-thread-count cotton fabric (which makes me cringe), but... close.
I'm recalling the day I got a piece of "original" Bruges lace (as an adult)... and it was.. rough to the touch. I don't know what I was expecting, but it seems that in my imagination every pretty thing is soft
But you see? Had you been a medieval trader, someone brings you that monstrosity that is cheap polyester and you'd go "[old English] what is this contraption you bring to me, this velvet has no silk in it!". What a useful trade skill 😊
I'm sorry you had go through that. My mom has a ton of sensory issues, so she was super empathetic regarding textures of clothing (not empathetic in other areas, but at least I was covered in the sensory department). I wish I could go back in time and -like the pumpkin fairy- transform your itchy dress into real-silk velvet, the softest to the touch. Complemented with, socks that never slouch.
What I find strange is how your parents seemed to project their money issues into you... like, why the message was "you're being a princess" and not "sorry honey, we cannot really afford the good food". Cheap food is objectively of a lower quality.
