I often go hiking in the White Mountains of NH and often talk to the volunteers at the Pinkham Notch visitors center; these are guys (mostly guys) who offer advice on where to hike
over the years, quite a few have told me, my knees gave out, so instead of hiking, I volunteer here at the visitor center
OTOH last winter, air temp about 15oF, met a couple in their mid to late 80s (!) going up Crawford Path past Mizpah cutoff
but hiking on packed snow is of course way easier !
